Our first real blog begins today. Now our new site is online and now the mad rush of work slows enough to allow us to concentrate on sharing our web knowledge with the internet world.


Today we will be looking into KEYWORD Research.


With such a huge demand for Google rankings from any business, be it your own personal blog or a massive company site the demand for top ten positions has increased like never before.

So as a designer how do you get the best possible placement for your clients website?

Well SEO has become more and more difficult as the months progress, with Google changing their indexing strategies and algorithms.

The first step to complete SEO and one which in our opinion requires the most work but can be so rewarding is Keyword Research.

Targeting your clients customers from the start can lead to much better rankings in the future. And a little time and focus spent on this initial concept could go along way to helping your clients business succeed on the web, thus enhancing your own reputation in the process.

So here is DCT Marketing Ltd's 5-step-guide to Keyword Research.


1. Who are your clients main competitors? - Search out fellow businesses and check what keywords they are using.

2. If they are selling exactly the same thing as your client then try to make your key phrases unique.

3. Generate keywords and key phrases based on what you think a customer would be typing in to find your clients business.

4. Searching meta tags and descriptions in the source code, and not over populating them with irrelevant keywords and phrases can go along way.

And finally...

5. After all your research is done try to limit your keyword targeting to 5 specific key phrases and keywords. Keeping the focus on a smaller amount can only help your site push up the rankings.
